Denver Bound

This is Reagan, reporting from the Mile High City ! It’s been a while since our last update, and we finally moved to Denver at the end of October. In short, I absolutely love it here (and I think Page is in the same boat). Jeana and Jake, along with my buddy Ethan, hosted a going away party for us. It was a great night with plenty of good food, Texas beer, and laughter. Like I said that night, the hardest part of the move was leaving behind some truly great people that we are fortunate to have as close friends.

Now, I will try to quickly detail our lives since moving to Denver . The drive went as well as possible, and it took a total of 16 hours. We were very fortunate to have the help of my parents, and Earl drove the 26” Penske truck like a seasoned pro. I felt like a kid on Christmas morning as we rolled into Denver on a typical fall day: 45 degrees, blue skies, the sun beating down, and perfect golf weather. It was sad dropping off my parents at the airport, but we headed immediately to an REI store to purchase our season ski passes. As we started stacking boxes in the garage, I immediately envisioned turning the garage into my “mancave”…. finally! Some of the highlights will be: ping pong table, TV, poker table, a punching bag, and possibly a karaoke machine.

Our place is neat, as it has three levels and two bedrooms. Page has fixed it up, and it is beginning to feel like home. The area we live in ( Tech Center ) is beautiful, with hills (can’t wait to go sledding), tress, creeks, and some good restaurants and bars. I love my job, and the people here are really friendly and fun. Here are some highlights of our time in Denver so far:

-In the past two weeks, we have gone skiing three times & I’ve played two rounds of golf.

-We’ve been to Breckenridge three times, Estes Park , Keystone, and to Boulder for the Aggie game. It was tough seeing the Aggies give away the game, but the views from the stadium are amazing.

-We’ve seen elk and buffalo on the side of the road, as we drove to Estes Park and Breck.

-As I expected, skiing is REALLY fun!! The routine goes like this: get coffee and breakfast from McDonald’s halfway to Breck, ski for a few hours, refuel with a great burger and milkshake (or a cold one), and get back to Denver in time to watch some football. Page still has her moves, and I am much better than I expected.

-The weather is amazing: it has been sunny 22 of the 23 days we’ve been here.

-Page will likely start working this week….. I knew she would find something soon, as her kindness and value is easy to spot.

-I have half-day Fridays, so I will be skiing and golfing a lot.

We are staying here for Thanksgiving, and we will probably head to Blackhawk for our feast (casino town, 45 minute drive). We should get at least two days of skiing in, head to the outlet malls in Silverthorn (within 15 minutes of 4 ski resorts) for “Black Friday”, and then partake in another Thanksgiving feast on Saturday with some longtime friends of Page’s family. We are really looking forward to Jeana and Jake’s visit in two weeks. It will be so nice to catch up with them, and I am planning on some synchronized skiing with Jake (haha). We hope to have many visitors in the coming months.

Summer Fun!

Reagan and I have been busy this summer. We took a long weekend trip with the Lankford's and Gobar's to the Frio river in Concan. We had a great time and it was nice to get away. Our cabin was brand new and very nice. Reagan liked that the "pie lady" was right across the street. The river was really low but we still were able to find a couple of good swimming spots. Reagan's mom came in town at the end of June and we celebrated Reagan's birthday with lots of good food. We spent a weekend in Dallas to attend Reagan's childhood friend Josh's wedding.

Our Home

Reagan and I have lived in our apartment for about a month now. We love the apartment and the area. We are in walking distance of several really nice shopping centers and restaurants. We have enjoyed our Saturdays at the pool.

Relaxing Weekend

This weekend was nice to be home. I finally got to enjoy our new apartment. We got to hang out with some friends and Reagan's sister. I was at the pool both Saturday and Sunday and it was so relaxing. Here are some pictures from our visit to the Gobar's. Baby Ethan is getting so big.

The Proposal

No, we didn't get engaged again but Reagan got free passes for a sneak preview of the movie “The Proposal”. We went to dinner before with Kirsten and Andrew at Cafe Adobe, and we then saw the movie. I really liked the movie, but Reagan said he expected more. The movie takes place in Sitka , Alaska (though it was actually shot in Massachusetts , per a Google search), and it is a beautiful seaside village with mountains nearby. I recommend seeing it. The best part was a guy proposed before the movie started. He had made a video to show on the screen, and then he got on his knee and proposed. It was cute but I would be so embarrassed if that happened to me.

Memorial Day Weekend

Reagan and I spent Memorial Day weekend in Shreveport to visit my grandmother. We were joined by Jacy and Dustin (driving from Birmingham, AL), as well as my dad and Carolyn who were in town for a wedding. The weekend consisted of 45 holes of golf for the guys, gambling at the El Dorado casino, and lots of food. Reagan was pleased to shoot 66-72, and Dustin played well also. I was not so lucky at the casino, but Jacy won $400 on Keno. Jacy and I challenged Reagan and Dustin to eat the pounder burger at Cheeburger Cheeburger to get their picture on the wall. Dustin finished with no problem, but Reagan struggled since he had a milkshake before his burger came. But in the end he finished like a champ. Both guys got their lovely picture on the wall.

We got up early Monday morning and headed back to Houston . We spent the afternoon at our apartment pool. This concludes our weekend trips for a while. I’m so excited to get to spend some weekends at home with friends.

Our yummy dessert! Reagan had Milky Way Pie and I had Italian Cream Cake

Our first post and many more to come.................

Howdy! Welcome to the blog of Reagan and Page SoRell. My commanding officer (Page) has directed me to post a summary of our lives over the past couple of months. I will try to make it both informative and somewhat concise (and hopefully entertaining).

April:
The big event of April was Jacy’s wedding to my new brother-in-law, Dustin. What wedding is complete without a bachelor/bachelorette party? [Apart from me….. stupid law school finals right before our wedding]. The ladies headed to Vegas for some shows (David Copperfield), fine dining, and maybe even some gambling. The guys headed to Helen , Georgia for a golf weekend. I flew to Birmingham on a Thursday, played golf with Dustin, and ate some world-class ribs at Dreamland. We left Friday morning for Helen, a cool re-creation of a European ski village that is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains (80 miles from Atlanta ). There were 8 guys, and it was a great weekend of golf, grilling, karaoke, poker, arm wrestling, stogies and whiskey in the hot tub, a little “disco dancing” {Borat voice}, and tons of laughing.

Jacy and Dustin’s wedding was a great success. Mr. Osburn hosted a BBQ on Thursday night, and some kind soul picked up two Bayou Goo pies from House of Pies. We really like all of Dustin’s friends and family, as they are fine, genuine Southern folks. The rehearsal dinner was at the Swinging Door, and we ate some finger-licking good BBQ. The wedding and reception were at Agave Road in Katy, and it was a wonderful ceremony led by a great man (Alex Kennedy). Some of my favorite things were the potato martini bar, wedding cake, candy bar, and sangria. We had fun dancing, and I pulled out some Carlton Banks’ moves. Overall, the wedding was top-notch, and Agave Road is a beautiful place with great staff. Page looked beautiful in her bridesmaid’s dress.

Some of the other highlights of April were:
-Casey Boeer’s wedding to Dustin Clark (Briscoe Manor is a great venue, fun reception, and Ryder Reeve was adorable in his little tux);
-I played a lot of golf; I also attended the Shell Houston Open with a couple buddies (Matt and Jake) and got really close to Ernie Els, Sergio, Anthony Kim, and many more top golfers;
-We had a lot of fun hanging out with friends: Steph’s birthday dinner at PF Changs (can you say “Great Wall of Chocolate”?); visiting precious Baby Ethan and his proud parents (Jeana and Jake); and I went on some “missions” with Jake (to find golf balls).
-We attended a birthday party for our buddy, Sander, who turned 3. We babysit Sander, and he is a delightful kid (we think he’s a genius).

May:
Page celebrated her birthday on May 3, and we had a nice dinner at Perry’s in Katy. We thought about getting away for a golf & spa weekend, but that will have to wait. We had a fun birthday dinner with our friends at BJ’s Brewery in Sugar Land . We also moved into an apartment in Katy, and we really like it (pool view, great location near La Centerra).

We made the drive to Harlingen to spend Mother’s Day weekend with my mom. I am blessed to have such a loving, selfless mom…. and she loves to spoil Page as much as she does me. She hosted a luncheon for Page to celebrate her birthday, and I made it home from golf (71) just in time to see a bunch of aunts/cousins/grandmas. Just as I expected, I broke out of a mini-slump and had my lowest round in 2-3 months…. I always play well with my old man. Like any trip to the Valley, food is of prime importance. We had Mexican food waiting for us when we arrived (Las Vegas CafĂ©), ate Mexican food two more times, had dinner Saturday night at Shrimp Haus on South Padre Island, and my mom made some awesome snickerdoodles, brownies, and banana pudding. It is always great seeing my parents, and my little sis (JanaBeth) came home as well.

We tripped to the Tulsa area last weekend to see Page’s family. I finally got to try some Oklahoma coneys, and they were as good as advertised. Some of the highlights were: driving to Stillwater to watch an NCAA golf regional, eat at Hideaway, and tour the OSU campus; going to Kevin’s graduation (Page’s cousin); all-you-can-eat ribs at Rib Crib; shooting guns with Uncle Bobby (44 Magnum, .380, 9mm); I got to play 3 rounds of golf with my father-in-law (I played well: 69-71-73); and Page got to spend time with her Grandma and other family members.. I liked the endless hills and lakes around Tulsa , and the weather was great: 50s in the morning and night, 60s-70s during the day. It was a nice break from the flatness and humidity of Texas .

Congratulations Kevin!

Graduation Party!
